Susanne Green

The late Susanne Green was a renowned artist in Sydney known for her Australian landscape painting. She was born in Melbourne, Victoria and moved to Sydney at a young age. Before becoming a full time artist, Susanne started off working in photo tinting and hand colouring films plus she always had an active interest in drafting and design.

Susanne, also known as Sue Green had an individual painting style shown in her Australian landscape paintings. She had some formal training from late Walter Chandler and Garett Kingsley (Member of the Royal Art Society). She was influenced by artists Otto Kuster, Bill Golding, John Hingerty, Lionel Taprell and one of the “Brushmen from the Bush” Eric Minchen.

Sue had a natural ability to paint realistic art works specialising in river scenes and landscapes.  In the family VW COMBI Van she travelled painting outdoors and obtained original landscape material from various areas across the country.  Sue’s favourite spots were the Macleay Valley, Hunter Valley, Kangaroo Valley, Sofala, Hill End, Wattle Flat, Trunkey Creek, Tuena, Abercrombie River, Megalong Valley & the Blue Mountains.  Sue was renowned for capturing the natural beauty of the country side and especially her tranquil river scenes, misty gum trees and depictions of historic buildings (all of which she enjoyed painting).

She was interviewed by “A Current Affair Show” some years ago and her art exhibition was shown on national television. It featured one of her art exhibitions which was a complete sell out in 2 days. The show also featured her showing how she could write with “two hands at once” and in “Mirror Reverse”. This “Ambidextrous” writing had been a natural ability for her from the age of 5 years.

Susanne was featured in an issue of People Magazine for her art works and Mirror Reverse writing skills.

She designed limited edition postcards for the NSW Postcard Society featuring:

  • Cricketers, Native Animals, Fantasy, Old Style Fashion and these were distributed through Australia and world wide.

She was awarded a life membership of St George Art Society and was an active member of the Southern Cross Art Group based in Sydney.

Over the years Susanne has made many donations of her paintings to be either raffled or auctioned at charity events, for example Red Cross, Handicapped Society and Chris O’Brien Life House.

Susanne won numerous awards for her landscape paintings and her one woman art shows were nearly always complete sell outs.  Sue had a number of combined art exhibitions with various artists including Vera Spicer & John Mc Credie.

Her paintings have been purchased by art lovers from all over Australia, USA, UK, Germany, Canada and many other countries.

Late in Susanne’s career she started to develop some of her black and white drawings which she considered as a form of “Outsiders Art”. She drew a scribble which developed into a complex composition of thoughts and ideas. Her Outsider art was often inspired from her life’s experiences.

A number of limited edition prints from Sunanne Greens Outsider art work are available from the Green Family Art website, coming soon.

Susanne had an interesting life and a biography of her life has been written by her Husband Joe Green the tittle is:

  • Susanne’s Story (A percentage of all sales are donated to Chris O’Brian Life House).
